Applying to Our Graduate Programs

Congratulations on taking the next step toward your graduate degree at the UNM Anderson School of Management. All applicants to Anderson's graduate programs must hold a Bachelor's degree from a regionally accredited U.S. institution or international equivalent, with a minimum 3.0 GPA.

Application Process

  • Create an account with BusinessCAS.
  • Select your program and term.
  • Attach all the requested documents and pay the application fee.
  • BusinessCAS will send your completed application to Anderson.
  • Apply for funding as soon as you submit your application.
  • Check your application status at any time by emailing andersongrad@unm.edu
  • You will receive notifications when your application is complete and when your decision is ready.

For All Programs

Resume Detail your student, work, management and leadership experience in your areas of responsibility.
Personal statement Write an essay of approximately 500 words explaining your reasons for seeking an advanced degree in business, as well as personal qualities and experiences that will benefit your professional colleagues in the program, including noteworthy achievements or additional information. The UNM Center for Teaching and Learning can help you with your personal statement.
Transcripts
  • Anderson accepts unofficial transcripts for application review, but official transcripts must be submitted before enrollment.
  • Applicants with a degree from The University of New Mexico may submit unofficial transcripts with the online application.
  • Electronic transcripts are accepted from Credentials Solutions, National Student Clearinghouse, and Parchment. If your school doesn't use one of these services, you can download a transcript request form in the "Colleges Attended" section of the BusinessCAS application and send it to your school's registrar.
  • You can send transcripts by mail to UNM Anderson Graduate Admissions, MSC05 3090, 1 University of New Mexico, Albuquerque, NM, 87131-0001.
  • International transcripts require a transcript evaluation, even if they're in English. The evaluation must show the U.S. equivalent education level and grade point average. We accept electronic evaluations from World Education Services and Educational Credential Evaluators as well as evaluations from members of the National Association of Credential Evaluation Services.

For the MBA, Online MBA and Graduate Management Certificate Program

Entrance Exam: The GMAT or GRE exam is required unless you qualify for a waiver.

We accept the GMAT or the GRE for admission, with no preference given to either test. The GMAT and GRE test scores are good for 5 years.

GRE

Register for the GRE. Select UNM as a designated score recipient when you take the exam.

Applicants with an earned BBA from an AACSB-accredited institution who possess a 3.5 cumulative GPA at graduation qualify for an Entrance Exam Waiver. All other applicants may apply for an Entrance Exam Waiver.

Information for Active Military and Veterans

UNM was rated a Top 10 Military and Military Spouse Friendly School by Viqtory Magazine in 2022-2023. Anderson is proud to offer educational benefits and resources to veterans, active military and their families to help them succeed in graduate school.

Entrance Exam Waiver

Applicants with five years of leadership experience as a military officer with rank may apply for an entrance exam waiver.

Application Fee Waiver

Active military members and veterans can apply to waive the application submission fee. The following documents are accepted as verification of military status:

  • For active duty, reserve or National Guard: copy of orders, valid military ID or memo from unit commander on official letterhead.
  • For honorably discharged, retired or disabled veterans: copy of DD214.

On-Campus Support

UNM's Veteran and Military Resource Center provides comprehensive educational benefits and resources: veterans orientation, peer advising, VetSuccess on-campus counseling, student employment opportunities and a veteran alumni chapter.

 

Entrance Exam Waiver Information

UNM Anderson MBA applicants can waive the entrance exam application requirement by submitting verification of one of the following:

  • An earned BBA from an AACSB-accredited institution with a 3.5 cumulative GPA at graduation
  • An earned MS, PhD, or MD degree in a STEM or Business discipline from a regionally accredited Research I or Research II institution or equivalent international institution.
  • Completion of the UNM Anderson MBA Quantitative Preparation Module through Anderson’s Business Academy Program. Cost of the course will be reimbursed via scholarship after becoming a student at the Anderson School of Management.
  • Ten years of managerial level post undergraduate work experience**
  • Five years of leadership experience as a military officer with rank**
  • Five years of leadership experience as a government official**
  • Five years of work experience at a corporate partner (PNM Resources or Bank of America)**

**Must also demonstrate quantitative ability in one of the following ways:

  • Earned undergraduate degree in a STEM or Business field
  • Earned grade of B or better in a college level calculus or statistics course within the last 5 years
  • Taking and passing a 25-item quantitative skills test administered by Anderson. You will have two opportunities to pass the test. If you are not successful, you can complete a math prep course administered by Anderson prior to admission, or submit GMAT/GRE scores to be considered for admission without a waiver.
