Application Process

The Application Process

Congratulations on taking the next step to earn your graduate degree at the UNM Anderson School of Management. To receive an admission decision, you must have a complete application. We recommend you look at the admission information for your program of interest and apply when you feel ready.

How to Apply to Anderson’s Graduate Programs

If you are ready to apply to an Anderson graduate degree program, this is your place for all your application questions. Anderson utilizes a centralized application service called Business CAS for all of our programs. Click on the Apply Now button, which will take you to the Business CAS login page. Create your username and password and this will enter you into the CAS portal to complete the admission application and submit all of your documents electronically. All of your documents will be sent back to UNM for application processing.

Application Checklist

All Anderson graduate programs require these uploaded documents in Business CAS. If you are applying to the Master of Accounting, Master of Science in Cybersecurity and Business Analytics or Master of Science in Project Management, these are the only required documents.

  1. Resume,
  2. Statement of Intent,
  3. Official transcripts from all non-UNM institutions attended. International applicants will be required to submit official transcripts in native language and in English. Review the requirements for Domestic and Foreign transcripts.
  4. For non-native English speakers: English Proficiency Exam - View the requirements and exceptions. If you took the Duolingo exam, you may submit your unofficial scores to andersonapplication@unm.edu.

Optional Submissions on Business CAS

In the Business CAS Application, you may skip:

  1. Unofficial Transcripts from all institutions attended including UNM (must be in English if they are foreign transcripts). We can make admission decisions with unofficial transcripts. If you are required to submit official transcripts in paper form, you may submit unofficial transcripts to receive an earlier admission decision.
  2. GMAT or GRE exam is required for all MBA programs and optional for all other specialized programs at the Anderson School of Management.  Read the MBA Entrance Exam waiver to determine if you may be able waive the GMAT/GRE exam.

Additional Program-specific requirements

Executive MBA

  1. Three Letters of Recommendation. In Business CAS, you will provide the name and email of all three recommenders
  2. Application Video. In lieu of an interview, we’re looking for a 2-minute video (not professionally done) that addresses these questions:
    • What does “Unleash Your Potential” (the Anderson motto) mean to you?
    • Why are you interested in the program?
    • Why should we admit you to the program?
    • What's your greatest accomplishment?
    • What is your ideal work environment?
    • Where do you see yourself five years from now?

MBA for Professionals and Online MBA

  1. GMAT or GRE exam unless you meet one of the MBA Waivers. Check out our policy and apply for a waiver.

Complete applications are evaluated using the same criteria regardless of the deadline. Frequently Asked Questions

What transcripts are required? (ex: official, unofficial, just degrees awarded or also classes, transcript validation)

We require official transcripts from all non-UNM institutions attended. International applicants will be required to submit official transcripts in native language and in English. Review the requirements for Domestic and Foreign transcripts.

Am I required to take the GMAT/GRE test? (and what is the minimum score?)

All of the MBA programs and the MS in Project Management (on campus) require the GMAT or GRE. MBA programs may qualify for a waiver. View waiver policy here. We have no minimum score for the GMAT/GRE requirement. Applications are reviewed holistically.

How do I know if I qualify for a GMAT/GRE waiver?

We will contact you within a week of submitting the GMAT/GRE waiver application.

What does “managerial experience” mean?

For the GMAT/GRE waiver application, one qualification is “Ten years of managerial level post undergraduate work experience”. We consider managerial experience to be managing people, budgets or projects.

How long should the statement of intent be?

This is your personal choice. We recommend you consider including your motivations for applying to the program and what qualifications you have that support your ability to succeed in the program.

What do I do for the application video? (ex: what questions do I answer, how should I dress, where do I upload it, how well-produced does it have to be?)

MBA and MS in Project Management (on campus) Applicants are required to submit a link to an application video in the application. Upload your video to a public location and copy the link for the application. It does not need to be professionally edited. Be yourself, be authentic, and film (from your phone) in a quiet location.

Please answer the following questions in your video:

  • What does “Unleash Your Potential” (the Anderson motto) mean to you?
  • Why are you interested in the program?
  • Why should we admit you to the program?
  • What's your greatest accomplishment?
  • What is your ideal work environment?
  • Where do you see yourself five years from now?

When is the application due and when will I hear back?

Check out all the deadlines and decision dates on this page. By the deadline, all of the requirements must be submitted with the exception of official transcripts.

Do you give application decisions sooner?

We do not. All of our decisions will be provided on the exact published date.

What are the scholarship and assistantship funding options?

UNM and the Anderson School both provide great scholarship opportunities. All of these are compiled on this page.

How much will my program cost per semester?

We have done the math for you. Check out the cost per program here. Additionally, MBA for Professionals and Executive MBA admits are required to pay a seat deposit.
